future

Biobased Building Lab

Residential and non-residential construction need to be more sustainable. Biobased and circular construction are methods by which we can greatly reduce our ecological footprint.

Biobased materials are raw materials that are natural and renewable. In the Southwest Delta, we focus mainly on recycling waste streams from regional agriculture and horticulture. We are investigating whether we can convert these streams into usable building materials.

In JRCZ's biobased building lab, researchers test the strength and resistance of materials made from mycelium, elephant grass, flax, hemp, cork, straw and seaweed. For this, they have state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal. The biobased building lab can be found on the ground floor.
