We face major
challenges
JRCZ is located in Middelburg, in the heart of the Southwest Delta. The land here is below sea level and the North Sea and rivers meet here. This makes for special nature, but it also brings a lot of economic activity through its ports, industry and important sectors such as agriculture and tourism. The special character of the area, especially in view of climate change, creates major challenges. It is therefore only logical that water is one of the four research themes of the research laboratory.
Students and researchers work in the JRCZ on solutions to urgent problems such as coastal safety, salinisation, the lack of fresh water and they look at how to make the transitions between land and water more natural. The research is important for the Southwest Delta, but certainly also for delta regions worldwide.
